Would You Like an Espresso?
What are your thoughts about coffee after dinner? Do you do it? Does it keep you up all night? Let’s talk about it.
My opinion is that coffee after dinner is perfectly fine. Here’s why I say that. I love the taste of coffee and I have no problem going to sleep with or without caffeine in my system. This is not the same for everyone and that’s fine. Let me explain my position on this one and maybe you will agree.
Starting with the taste, coffee is obviously good, or I wouldn’t drink it and I sure wouldn’t write about it. I find the flavor variety to be interesting and I like the change of pace from water. There are obviously different varieties, roasts, blends, grind sizes, and ways to brew. I tend to love them all. If that’s the case, then it makes sense to drink a coffee after dinner.
The after dinner coffee I drink is typically espresso. I remember the first time it was offered to me after a fancy business dinner. The concept was intriguing. Coffee? Now? Here’s the deal. That coffee tends to be delicious. That is especially true for those of you who like a strong coffee flavor. You can get plain drip coffee, but espresso is what goes well after a nice meal.
The one hangup coffee drinkers have with coffee later in the day is the caffeine. Espresso is particularly loaded with caffeine as it is basically two cups of coffee in one little mini cup. What to do?
Thankfully caffeine and I are friends. We are such good friends that we sleep together. I know how that sounds, but we have been doing it for years and find it quite comfortable. It’s to the point where we almost do it nightly.
There is a solution for the rest of you with the late night, or even late day, caffeine problem. It’s called decaf. Fire up a pot of decaf coffee and off you go. If you are having dinner at a nice restaurant, they will surely offer decaf. Problem solved. Get your coffee flavor without the jolt of warm and electricity delivered by our friend caffeine.
Next time you are sitting at a nice dinner and someone offers you a coffee, what will you say? My vote is to go with it. If you haven’t ever done it before, it could be the start of a nice lifelong relationship.
